What is Glaucoma?
An eye disease that will damage the optic nerve is called Glaucoma. The optic nerve will send the visual signals to the brain. Having high pressure in the eye is said to be the main reason for risk with Glaucoma. It will result in loss of vision slowly, and if it is not treated it can end up in eye blindness. When you get to know about having Glaucoma it is advisable to get the correct treatment on time. It will save your vision.
Type of Glaucoma?
There are many types of Glaucoma. The two important types are open-angle and angle-closure Glaucoma.
Open-angle Glaucoma:
Maximum Glaucoma cases have open-angle Glaucoma. It is the most common form of Glaucoma.
- When drainage canals clog slowly which will increases the eye pressure is the first reason for open-angle Glaucoma.
- It will have a wide and open-angle in between the iris and cornea.
- It will develop gradually and will end up for a lifetime.
- Mostly its symptoms and damage are not noticed.
The angle where the iris and cornea meet and should be wide and open is called “Open-angle”. Another name for open-angle glaucoma is primary or chronic glaucoma.
Angle-Closure Glaucoma:
It is a minor form of Glaucoma.
- Blockage of drainage canals will end up in a sudden increase in intraocular pressure is the main cause of angle-closure glaucoma.
- The angle between the iris and cornea is closed or narrow.
- It will develop immediately.
- Its symptoms and damages can be noticed.
- Immediate medical treatment is required for this.
When the angle between the iris and cornea is narrowing Angle-closure glaucoma appears. Other names are acute glaucoma or narrow-angle glaucoma.
